A day-long technical workshop bridging academic research and practical infrastructure management, bringing together the REVIVE consortium, infrastructure owners and industry to discuss the latest developments in vulnerable reinforced concrete infrastructure.
On 23 September 2026, REVIVE held a day-long technical workshop hosted by Civil, Maritime and Environmental Engineering (CMEE) at the University of Southampton and organised by Dr Mehdi Kashani. Prof Yannis Ieropoulos, Head of CMEE, opened the day, followed by an introduction to REVIVE and the purpose of the workshop.
Three keynotes set the scene: Mr Tim Kersley (Network Rail) on unlocking hidden truths for improved resilience, Mr Colin George (National Highways) on the challenges of managing ageing highway structures, and Dr Chris Mundell (AtkinsRéalis) on findings from the National Highways Structures Moonshot programme. The sessions that followed moved through structural assessment, fibre-optic sensing, Bayesian damage diagnosis, satellite-based monitoring and machine-learning-based damage localisation, with speakers from the University of Southampton, Imperial College London, Helmut-Schmidt University, Università di Roma Tor Vergata, SZTAKI and ZAG.
Dr Mehdi Kashani closed the day with remarks and tours of the National Infrastructure Laboratory.
Each speaker's photo and slide deck appear below as they are shared.
